Pre-Law trip to CT Supreme Court

Thursday, November 5, 2015
9:45am – 3:00pm

Other
CT Supreme Court

We are invited to attend argument in the case of In re: Oreoluwa O., a termination of parental rights case with immigration issues. Arguing for the state will be Michael Besso, Assistant Attorney General. Arguing for the father (who brought the appeal) will be either James Sexton or Michael Taylor, two fairly young attorneys who recently started their own practice and have already brought several high visibility, controversial cases involving, among other things, a young woman’s (17 years old) right to refuse medical treatment.

The argument is at 11. After it, Michael Besso and Ben Zivyon (head of the Attorney General’s child protection unit) will speak to you about the case and answer any questions you may have about their work. After that, Justice Richard Robinson, who has just heard the case, will speak to you. This is a rare opportunity to hear from these people immediately following argument.

The van will leave Storrs at 9:45 on Thursday, November 5th, and be back in Storrs between 2 and 3 – probably closer to 2. There are no arrangements for food, so you might want to bring something with you. We have a very limited number of seats, and will be accepting students until this limit is reached. RSVP to Krista Rogers (krista.rogers@uconn.edu) ASAP if you're interested.
