"STEM in Society"

Dr. John Redden, Physiology & Neurobiology

It is widely known that scientists communicate their research through publications in highly specialized academic journals. It is equally important, but often times more difficult, for a scientist to be able to explain his or her work to a non-scientific audience. This discussion with Dr. John Redden (Physiology & Neurobiology) will focus on the intersection of science and society, and explore the evolving role of STEM professionals in a world dominated by social media and a 24 hour news cycle. We will consider educational, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors that contribute to the gap in STEM literacy between scientists and their communities by looking at examples from academia and pop culture.

Attending this event counts toward Sophomore Honors.
