Personal Statement Workshop

Friday, February 10, 2017
2:00pm – 3:00pm

Storrs Campus
HBL, Level 1, EC-1

Applications to graduate schools, fellowships, grants, jobs, and other competitive programs often require each applicant to submit a short essay about their history, qualifications, goals, and purpose for applying. These essays are sometimes written in response to very specific questions or sometimes in response to a generic prompt. In both cases, this initial document plays an important role in your application process. This workshop will familiarize you with the basic elements of each essay, and it will offer a constructive environment for you to start drafting your essay. Students are encouraged to bring their drafts and discuss them with the workshop leader and their peers. Students at any point in the writing process are invited to atten. Undergraduates, graduate students, and non-native English speakers are all welcome.
