Paul Tillich's View of Judaism: Faculty Colloquium

Wednesday, September 13, 2017
3:00pm – 4:00pm

Storrs Campus
Class of '47 - Babbidge Library

Dr. Robert E. Meditz will present "The Dialectic of the Holy: Paul Tillich's Idea of Judaism within the History of Religion" for the Center for Judaic Studies Faculty Colloquium Series.

When renowned philosopher and theologian Paul Tillich came into conflict with the Nazi regime, he emigrated to the United States, eventually receiving an appointment at Harvard Divinity School. Tillich was an outspoken critic of anti-Semitism both before and after the Holocaust.

Dr. Meditz will discuss his recently published work and examine the way Paul Tillich's positive theology of Judaism contrasted sharply with the many complex, negative ways in which Judaism was portrayed in Western thought.
