TITLE: “Repurposing Buprenorphine and Developing Opioid Targets for Treatment-Resistant Depression”

Speaker: Irwin Lucki, Ph.D. Professor and Chair, Department of Pharmacology & Molecular Therapeutics Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

Learning Objectives:

Participants will (be able to):

1. Learn of the scientific rationale for the potential role of mu- and kappa-opioid receptors in regulating mood and affect in humans.

2. Hear preclinical and clinical evidence supporting the development and use of buprenorphine for treatment-resistant depression.

3. Discuss liabilities for the use of buprenorphine in treating depression, such as side effects and abuse potential, and potential development of novel compounds with a greater margin of safety.

Target Audience: Health Center faculty, residents, medical students, and other mental health professionals
