Storrs Campus
SU Theater

The NYC House Ballroom Community has a rich and resilient history of its own. With an emphasis on chosen family and healing through art, this population has been home to thousands over the years. In this lecture, Garçon will give historic context of this performance art subculture from the early 1900s through the present and its influence on addressing LGBT youth homelessness through an intersectional lens.

Twiggy Pucci Garçon is an LGBTQ+ activist, advocate, and healer. She has collaborated with artists, filmmakers, academics, and policymakers to increase the visibility of both creative and sociopolitical agendas. They are the Program Director at the True Colors Fund, where they lead Youth Collaboration programs, aimed at not only elevating youth voices but also creating space for partnerships with young adults to lead the movement to end youth homelessness. In addition to her activism and advocacy work, Twiggy has worked as a model and runway trainer, performance artist, and special events & talent management coordinator.

This event is co-sponsored by the WGSS department and is also an Honors event.
