Storrs Campus
Rainbow Center @ Student Union SU 403

Due to the inclement weather and the closure of the University of Connecticut, today's lecture has been cancelled and will be rescheduled to a later date.

The Rainbow Center's Out to Lunch Lecture Series continues the semester with a presentation by Brenda Lovette and Dillan DiGiovanni, entitled, "Choosing Love: A Workshop for Couples Navigating a Gender Transition."

Most people will never know the challenge, turmoil, and empowerment of going through a gender transition. Partners of trans* people are right on the front lines with the person in transition. Partners often experience their own kind of transition which involves aspects of their identity, their expectations, and life visions. This talk is presented by a couple that met before transition was even an thought. They persevered through the various highs and lows and are here to authentically share so other couples can learn from their experience. Dillan and Brenda credit their training as holistic health coaches and the associated commitment to growth and heath for the skills and knowledge they’ve used to navigate this process. Participants will learn ideas for fortifying their partnership, providing emotional and practical support to each other, and responding to confronting questions and experiences in the outside community. Participants will also leave with helpful resources and simple tips for managing stress levels to make this process a little bit easier.

Brenda Lovette is a speech language pathologist, a cisgender woman, and partner to Dillan DiGiovanni. Professionally, Brenda specializes in treatment for people with brain injury and stroke, and voice therapy including voice feminization. Personally, Brenda is committed to self discovery and health via her yoga practice, and exploring the meaning of intimacy in her relationship with her partner.
