Lunch Bunch: Dr. Nishith Prakash

Attend this lunch for an opportunity to chat with Professor Nishith Prakash from the Department of Economics and Human Rights Institute over lunch. Professor Prakash teaches Economic Development and Economics of Gender and Inequality at University of Connecticut. Professor Prakash’s primary research interests include development, labor, education, and public policy. One line of his work focuses on understanding the effects of affirmative action policies in India on labor market outcomes, child labor and poverty. His other work has examined topics such as the returns to English-language skills in India, effects of corruption, crime and economic activity, nutrition and child development in India, and evaluation of welfare and behavioral impacts of Index Based Livestock Insurance (IBLI) in Kenya. Professor Prakash’s works on education has policy relevance and his expertise is used by Government of Bihar, India and UNESCO. His work is widely cited in Nation and International media, including The Economist. Professor Prakash’s research uses experimental and quasi-experimental econometric techniques to obtain estimates with causal interpretations.
