In recognition of the United Nations’ International Year of the Family, the UConn Human Development and Family Studies department will be hosting several events over the course of the year. Following the Rwandan genocide of 1994, millions of young children were orphaned. Through resilience and persistence, many of Rwanda’s children and youth formed new families and created youth healing centers throughout the country as part of the nation’s recovery efforts. One speaker, N. Sarari Solange, a genocide survivor and a member of a reconstructed family, is the Executive Director of the Rwandan Youth Healing Center (RYHC) in Rwanda. Our other speaker will be Todd Fry, the Executive Director of the Friends of the RYHC in Boston, MA. Attending this event counts toward Sophomore Honors.
