Second Language Writing Workshop: Choosing Prepositions

Monday, October 13, 2014
3:00pm – 4:00pm

Storrs Campus
EC-2, Homer Babbidge Library

In this 50-minute workshop, we will address the use of prepositions in various contexts. Prepositions are functional items (as opposed to lexical items, like nouns and adjectives), which means that, rather than adding direct meaning, their meaning is visible through the function they perform by linking two or more elements in the sentence. Similar expressions use different prepositions to express the same meaning in different languages–which makes prepositional use a challenging concept to master. We will discuss how to choose prepositions by working through examples. All levels of English are welcome!
