Gallery Talk at the Benton Museum

Thursday, September 18, 2014
12:15pm – 1:00pm

Storrs Campus
The William Benton Museum of Art

This gallery talk will focus on the Benton's newest exhibition, "Victory is a Question of Stamina: Posters from the First World War." The show, which takes its title from a slogan used by the U.S. Food Administration in support of voluntary food rationing, focuses on the role of women in that undertaking and others essential to allied victory. The exhibition's curator, Carla Galfano, will speak to the nature of visual imagery as one of the primary and most effective means communicating with the public, and how posters were successfully used by the United States Government to encourage participation in all aspects of the war effort.
