The Center for Behavioral Education and Research (CBER) will welcome Sarah Powell, Ph.D. (University of Texas) and Laura Barquero, M.S. (Vanderbilt University) to present to graduate students, faculty, and others interested in the Neag School of Education.


1:00-2:00 Part 1 – Research from Early-Career Scholars in Special Education

Dr. Powell will present on her innovative work in mathematics instruction: “How to Turn One Math Symbol into a Line of Research: Advice for Graduate Students”

Ms. Barquero will present on her studies of reading disability and the brain: “Using fMRI to Explore Reading Intervention: Asking Questions That Lead to a Line of Research”

2:00-3:00 Part 2 – How to Make the Most of Graduate School and Prepare for an Academic Career

Dr. Powell, Ms. Barquero, and CBER Research Scientist, Dr. Devin Kearns, will provide some pieces of advice. There will be plenty of time for questions from graduate students.
