12:00pm – 1:30pm

Storrs Campus
Rainbow Center @ Student Union 403

The Rainbow Center's Out to Lunch Lecture Series continues the semester with a presentation by Shawn Lang, entitled, "LGBT Activism in Connecticut."

Connecticut has a long, rich and mostly forgotten history in the annals of LGBT rights. We were the third state in the nation to pass a “gay rights’ bill, but it was not without a long struggle, attempts, activism and arrests.

Shawn M. Lang is the Director of Public Policy with AIDS Connecticut (ACT). She coordinates CT’s HIV/AIDS public policy activities on the state and federal levels. Shawn chairs the AIDS LIFE (Legislative Initiative and Funding Effort) Campaign, Connecticut’s AIDS policy group, and is on the board of the National AIDS Housing Coalition; the Community Advisory Board of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, and the National Domestic Violence and HIV/AIDS Advisory Committee. A longtime activist on issues impacting battered women; LGBT communities; homelessness and HIV/AIDS, she lives in Hartford with her 17 year old son.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches!
