TITLE: Adolescent Substance Use: “Neurons to Neighborhoods”

Speaker: Tammy Chung, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh

Target Audience: UConn Health faculty, residents, medical students, and other mental health professionals.

Learning Objectives: Participants will (be able to): 1. Use a brief 2-item alcohol screening tool to identify youth at risk for alcohol-related problems 2. State how brain structure and functioning differs for adolescents in substance use treatment compared to community control adolescents 3. Discuss how adolescent substance use treatment needs to address both individual (e.g., motivation to abstain) and environmental factors (e.g., family and peer substance use) in order to optimize treatment outcomes

Accreditation: The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Connecticut School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
