My CT Woods, How to Build a Woodland Trail

Sunday, July 26, 2015
9:00am – 3:00pm

Middlesex County Extension Center

Walking down a woodland trail can be a calming and restorative experience. Building that same trail, however, may not be a calming and restorative experience. A lot of work and planning go into building a sustainable forest trail. If you are interested in creating a trail for your own property or on a land trust, you may have many questions on how to start. Please join us as trail building expert David Boone from the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)and the Connecticut Forest and Park Association spends a day guiding us through the ins and outs of trail building.

This workshop will focus on planning considerations and construction of walking trails in wooded areas. Trail construction for multi-use or purposes other than walking will not be presented. The workshop will culminate in the construction of a small hiking path to a vernal pool. Location: Middlesex County Extension Center, 1066 Saybrook Road, Haddam, CT 06438
