“Surface Functionalization with Femtosecond Lasers”

Femtosecond laser techniques have opened new frontiers in studying exotic states of matter when it is exposed to ultrashort high-intensity laser pulses. In this talk, I will discuss a number of techniques developed in my lab that allow us to functionalize material surfaces through femtosecond laser processing. The techniques led to the creation of the so-called black and colored metals, superhydrophillic and superhydrophobic surfaces. Possible applications of the functionalized surfaces will also be discussed.

Refreshments will be prior to the talk, at 3:30 p.m., in the Gant Complex, Physics Library, Room PB-103.
