Groundcovers for Durable Landscapes

Monday, April 25, 2016
10:00am – 12:00pm

Middlesex County Extension Center, Haddam

FEE: $50.00 Non‐Master Gardener $40.00 Master Gardener REGISTRATION DEADLINE: April 18, 2016

Instructor: Kathy Connolly

Lawns are the most widely‐used groundcover of the past two centuries but there are many other ways to cover ground with durable, low‐growing and low‐maintenance plants that work just as well. (Sometimes, even better.) In this two‐hour session, we’ll step back from conventional assumptions about how and why we cover yard and community spaces with grass and other cultivated plants. After suggesting some new ways of looking at the space beneath our feet, we’ll take a tour of groundcovering possibilities. Discussion will include some of the latest developments in low‐mow lawns and native plants for groundcovers.
