Saturday, April 30, 2016
9:30am – 4:00pm

298 East Haddam Moodus Road, Moodus, CT 06469

The Study of Survival, Homesteading & Sustainable Living Workshop

The 4-H Community within Haddam is inviting the general public to come out and enjoy a day of learning. For the past 3 years your neighbors in Haddam and surrounding towns have donated their time to teaching others in our community. Our main focus in the past was providing information to children ages 7 – 18 with various skills on how to survive in the wilderness if they became lost. Again we are offering a one day event that will include some of Haddam’s finest folks in teaching and providing some hands on learning. Children may have the opportunity to try and make Fire, build a shelter using what’s around you, how to safely toss an ax, atalatal or knife into a wooden target, lean about wilderness first aide, Bear Awareness what to do if you come in contact with a bear in the woods, and taste some of the edible foods right here in your own back yard that grow wild.

And while the children are off learning some really cool stuff about how to survive in the woods parents and other children can venture over to the Homesteading & Sustainable living area to learn about: how to make Cheese, learning about Bees and keeping them, how Maple syrup is made and what else can be made from our native tree along with some tips on Gardening. Some area’s will give the brave the opportunity to try it yourself.

The day will start at 9:30 a.m. when pre-registered attendees can sign-in and select their day's schedule and instructions. Classes will be first come first serve and there will be limits to the number of attendance at each station. There will be 2 morning sessions from 10:00 a.m. to Noon a 1 hour break for Lunch with the afternoon session starting at 1:00 and ending at 4:00 p.m. each session is rotating about every hour.
