Spring Puppet Forum with Laura Heit

Wednesday, April 20, 2016
7:00pm – 8:00pm

Storrs Campus
Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry, 1 Royce Circle, Storrs Center

As the last event of its 2016 Spring Puppet Forum Series, the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry will host puppeteer, visual artist, and filmmaker Laura Heit on Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in the Ballard Institute Theater, located at 1 Royce Circle in Storrs Center.

Laura Heit will discuss her richly varied work in stop-motion film, live-action puppetry, drawing, and computer animation. A West-Coast-based artist whose work has crossed many disciplines, Heit has deep roots in puppetry and animation and all things miniature. After studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and London's Royal College of Art, Heit co-directed the Experimental Animation Program at the California Institute of Arts before moving to Portland, Oregon, where she teaches at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

This forum takes place in conjunction with Heit's exhibition at the Ballard Institute, "The Bureau of Small Requests: Puppetry and Animation of Laura Heit," which will open on Saturday, April 23 at 4:30 p.m. with a free tour and performances by Laura Heit.

Admission to the forum is free (donations greatly appreciated!), and refreshments will be served. Come early, and experience our puppet exhibitions, as well as the video resources in our library nook. This forum will also be live-streamed on our UStream page: Visit for more information.
