Attending this event counts towards Sophomore Honors.

World Antibiotic Awareness Week is November 14 to November 20, 2016 and UCONN has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to get the word out about the issue of antibiotic resistance. We will be hosting a movie screening of the documentary "Resistance" followed by a discussion panel of experts about the movie and answers to questions from the audience. This event is sponsored by the UCONN Small World Initiative.

Overuse of antibiotics around the world had resulted in "superbug" diseases that are unaffected by antimicrobial treatment, and the issue is growing all the time. The World Health Organization and CDC have created World Antibiotic Awareness Week (or Get Smart About Antibiotics Week) to promote discussion and education about this deadly issue, and UCONN is doing its part. The UCONN Small World Initiative plus MCB course "Microbe Hunting: Crowdsourcing the Discovery of New Antibiotics" are sponsoring a screening of "Resistance", which explores the issue in depth with scientific facts and testimonials. The documentary lasts 1hr 12 mins, and our plan is to bring in a few experts to lead a discussion and answer questions after. The public and students and faculty from nearby institutions will be invited to attend.
