Mountain Laurel: An Intimate Introduction

Wednesday, June 6, 2018
6:00pm – 8:00pm

Broken Arrow Nursery, 13 Broken Arrow Road Hamden, CT

Enjoy a twilight walk through a special nursery to learn about the Connecticut state flower, Kalmia latifolia, with the man who wrote the book: Richard Jaynes. Carl Linnaeus distinguished the mountain laurel as the most beautiful flower found in North America and named it in honor of his student/explorer Peter Kalm. Learn more about this fine evergreen shrub and its relatives as it comes into annual bloom. Dick will talk about its environmental preferences and variability. You’ll learn some secrets about pollinators and propagation and will be able to see more of the nursery and the unusual plants found there during this after-hours event.
