Faculty Talk Fridays - Sustainable Landscaping

Friday, April 6, 2018
12:15pm – 1:15pm

Hartford Campus
Hartford Times Building room 216

Join us for a discussion about SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPING with Carl Salsedo, UConn Department of Extension.

Sustainable landscaping is about reducing waste, energy and materials. It is about thinking and observation. Its purpose is to design and create systems that imitate nature and turn problems into solutions. In this presentation participants will learn basic sustainable landscaping practices as well as some of the plants that can be a part of a Connecticut sustainable landscape. The savvy sustainable gardener or landscaper will take advantage of sustainable landscape practices that will create a flourishing landscape, while at the same time, reducing the need for excessive amounts of fertilizer, pesticides and water. As gardeners, each of us can make changes in our own backyards. Together, millions of households doing similar things can have a very positive environmental effect.
