The Andover Conservation Commission will sponsor an Invasive Plant Species volunteer training on Saturday, April 14, 9–11 a.m., at the junction of the Rail Trail and Lake Road, near Merritt Valley Road.

Join the effort to clean up the invasive Japanese barberry that is taking over the area, in a 2-hour work party. Participants should wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks and shoes (no sandals). Unlike Asiatic Bittersweet, barberry is not deep-rooted; and unlike Poison Ivy, it does not cause a rash—but it is prickly. Please bring sturdy gardening gloves. Spades, loppers, and pruning shears will also be helpful. The Conservation Commission will provide water and home-baked cookies.

From Route 6, take Lake Road about ¼ mile and park near the rail trail.
