Tropical Cyclones and Climate Change

Suzana J. Camargo Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Columbia University This talk will summarize what is currently known about the influence of climate change on tropical cyclones (hurricanes, typhoons). First, the talk will discuss the current trends in tropical cyclones characteristics, such as frequency, intensity, translation speed, including the issues that exist for detecting changes in the historical datasets. Next will be a discussion concerning projections of tropical cyclone activity, i.e. how we expect these storms to change and explain the level of certainty for different aspects of these projects. Lastly, Dr. Camargo will finish by showing attribution studies of recent hurricanes.
