Conference: "Human Rights and the Politics of Solidarity"

Thursday, April 4, 2019
9:00am – 5:00pm

Storrs Campus
Konover Auditorium

This conference will consider the meaning of solidarity and its role in creating an affirmative agenda for responding to the challenges facing the human rights movement in the 21st century. The conference will begin with a high level discussion of current threats to solidarity in human rights work, followed by panels designed to consider these issues in historical perspective as well as addressing the particular challenges in areas such as international criminal law and economic justice. Conference presenters include prominent human rights practitioners, lawyers, and scholars working on topics ranging from transitional justice and constitutionalism and human rights to economic and social rights in an era of growing global inequality. Breakout lunch sessions on the second day of the conference (April 5) will allow attendees to meet with such practitioners in smaller settings to discuss innovative approaches to human rights mobilization.
